Stronger together: Partners in Kenya

Building a successful case

In 2017 the Ministry of Health of Kenya (MoH), Kwale County Government, Plan International Kenya and Shifo Foundation (Shifo) began a collaboration to improve maternal and child health information systems, with the intent of improving data quality and data use. The project was financially supported by Takeda CSR.

What we have done

Data for action interventions have been integrated at community, facility and sub-national level:

At the community level, SMS messages are automatically sent to families with children one day before they are due to visit a health facility, to remind them about the visit.

Health workers receive monthly key performance indicators that highlight their performance, and support them to identify actions to improve service delivery.

Decision-makers and planners at the county and sub-county level review the performance of the health facility using an integrated dashboard, and support health facilities to implement service improvement actions.
